Good Netflix shows to watch
by Simon inin the long winter nights you need some good tv shows to watch while you wait for the eternity between seasons of game of thrones.. we've watched marco polo (pretty good) and have just started watching orange is the new black which is not at all what i imagined (didn't know it was funny!).
house of cards is on the list too as we've heard good things about that.. anyone have any others that are worth seeing?.

If you like football and fantasy football or comedies, The League is really funny. -

Watchtower Study today Jan 4 2015 , Fallacious Reasoning (issue Nov 15 2014)
by BluesBrother inthe subject of the study was jesus resurrection .
my post is not about the subject and whether or not that can be believed in.
millions of christians do and it is not my place to debunk religious faith.

I wish that my mother never spent $0.10 on the Watchtower and Awake...
Ditto. My mom came in and was baptized in 1974. Remember, Armageddon was just a year away! :scream:
BB- Thanks for the recap. I've been out nearly 4 years and nothing much has changed. Same old sh*t.

Poster country flags and privacy
by Simon inthe new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).
before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.
first, the reason i think it should be shown:.

No problem here.
I just read over all the previous posts. Bottom line, don't share so much personal information that could be used to ID yourself IF you fear being outed.
Its an open/public forum. Anything you say can and will be used against you. :smirk:

Just quit quietly - the law is on your side!
by Ajax infreedon of religion guarantees any individual the legal right to abandon any religion at any time for any reason.. if you are a citizen of a country which champions human rights, then your government doesn t care what religion you join, but they will uphold your freedom to join it, without interference, coercion or persecution.
your countries human rights legislation will conversely uphold your rights when it comes time to abandon any religion you so choose.
those (elders) who incite others interfere, coerce or persecute those who have left will be in transgression of the human rights statutes.. a person is only obligated to ecclesiastic law if he exposes himself to it or transgressed it while still a member of a religious community.. when your time comes to abandon the jw-wt cult, do it while still in good standing, be proactive - be decisive -put it in writing!..and do it before the hounders set sights on you.. write a card or letter with as much or as little explanation as you one day might wish to share with pharisees and lawyers.. take this card to a notary public to have your signature witnessed and have the writing overstamped in several places with the date.

You owe them nothing. They have zero authority over you.
I told an elder that kept calling me, “you have the power and authority over me that I allow you. I don’t allow you any power or authority over me.”
When I first left, I wrote a few letters of disassociation- some long and some short. It felt good getting it off my chest, but I later deleted them. I agree with those who say “you are reaffirming their power over you by sending a letter of disassociation.”

I left and my wife cried once. A year later she joined me in leaving. This will be our second Christmas celebrated ever. Our 2 and 6 year olds love the tree, lights and everything that comes with it.
My uber dub mom still talks to me. I posted pictures of the kids in front of the Christmas tree on Facebook last week. I hadn’t talked to my mom in about 7-8 weeks and she mentioned seeing the pictures today when I called her. She didn’t say anything negative or bad about it. She just commented on how big the kids were getting. I have always, in the past, blocked her from seeing holiday and birthday pictures. But not this time. I even told her I would buy her a plane ticket to come visit in the spring or summer and she accepted. So for her, I think the shock has warn off and she is a bit more accepting than my sister.
My sister on the other hand unfriended me on FB a while back and we haven’t spoken for about a year. She’s married to a MS and married into an extremely large JW family.
My mother-in-law hasn’t treated us any different either.
My brother stopped attending at 16 and was never baptized. He and I have become much closer since I left.
Wife and I were both born in and baptized. In for 28 years and now out for over 3. Best decision I ever made.

I say "try" because they are hypocrites. I remember having a big turkey dinner with an elder and his family. However it was a day or 2 later. Other years, i remember having turkey dinner on thanksgiving.
This was our first thanksgiving where we hosted. Went awesome. So full.

Its a national holiday. JW's try to stay separate from national/all holiday celebrations.

Oh, the irony.
by disposable hero of hypocrisy intoday i was sat in a car full of jaydubs on the way home from the circuit assembly, and the discussion turned to halloween and how to avoid trick or treaters!.
seriously, there was talk of pulling curtains shut across front doors and how disgusting it was that parents let their children knock on doors , and how annoying it is to get a knock on the door knowing it's an uninvited person!
had to bite my tongue... .

Just got back ourselves. Wife and I faded, so far unscathed. This is the second year we decorated for Halloween and this Christmas will be the second time decorating. Last Christmas 2 elders came to our door while the decorations were up. We haven’t heard a thing about it from them since. With your husband forcing their hand, there may be no way to escape their pursuit. As already mentioned… 2 witnesses or it didn’t happen…if your lucky.
Good luck. Keep us posted.
I now realize how much I missed out on as a little one. My kids had SO much fun.
